            Our calendar attempts to be accurate. But it's always a good idea to check with the sponsoring venue for late changes, cost, ticket availability,  etc.
          There are folk dances every Wednesday at the Women's Club except July and August.  The third Wednesday in the month is a Jam Dance, with jamming musicians.
                    Events sponsored by the Folklore Society are highlighted in lilac.

Free Live Music Friday Nights at Manito Park All Summer Long

Starting Friday, June 4, you can relax in the beautiful ambiance of Spokane’s South Hill botanical wonder, Manito Park, and enjoy free live music. The concerts are held at the Manito Park Bench Café (between Mirror Pond and Duncan Gardens) every Friday at 6:00 p.m. Delicious food is available as well as many refreshing summer beverages, including beer and wine. This summer’s lineup includes a diversity of music, including classical guitar and pop/rock, with performances by Paul Grove – classical guitar, Sidhe  -fingerstyle guitar and lush vocals,  Trailer Park Girls – acoustic pop-rock , Just Plain Darin – singer songwriter guitarist, and Matt Russell – acoustic pop rock – singer/songwriter . 7Contra Dance and Potluck Picnic and Jam Session
Sat. Aug 7th, 3pm until dark Please bring what you need to have a great time on the Spokane River. Kathy Miles is providing a great setting to enjoy the day, friends and a little music. Volley ball and Boccee Ball will
be available. Also, Kathy's house in right on the Centennial Trail and can be used as a starting point for hikes or bike rides. We may even dance! Please bring your own sunscreen, food, beverages, utensils, lawn chairs and towels and floaties, if you want to swim at your own risk. A regular gas BBQ gill will be available if you want to grill something. NO PETS PLEASE
Directions:
Make your way north to Francis.
Go west until Francis turns into Nine Mile Rd. Go about one mile
Turn left on Seven Mile Rd. Cross Seven Mile bridge and make the first left onto Riverside Park Dr.
Go about a mile and turn left onto Wilbur which turns into Rivermere.

14Summer Saturday Contra Dance
When?: August 14, 7pm – 10 pm. Where? The East Spokane Grange, 1621 N. Park Road,
Spokane Valley, WA 99212. Who? Ray Polhemus calling, Out of the Wood playing. Cost? $8.00
members - $10:00 non-members, children accompanied by an adult are admitted FREE.
No Partner? – No problem. There are many people who would like to dance with you. Beginner?
No problem- Arrive at 6:45 and there are usually free lessons.
Please join us for a contra dance at the East Spokane Grange Saturday, Aug 14th. Come and dance
The dance runs from 7 to 10 PM with a lesson for beginners at 6:45. There will be potluck
snacks at the break.

15Story Walk – Sunday, August 15, 2010
3 p.m., starting at the Community Building, 35 W. Main
Story Walk is a project organized by friends who want to share stories, build community, and encourage folks to look at places in Spokane in new ways.
Please Join us for a walk throughout downtown Spokane as we share roughly a dozen stories about local places.  Learn about what makes each place personally, socially, and/or historically significant to each story-teller.
Meet at the Community Building, 35 W. Main, at 3 p.m. on August 15, and pick up a story book/zine.
This event is a free and we welcome folks of all ages!

21Unity in the Community – August 21
Unity in the Community is in its 16th year and
will take place in Riverfront Park on August 21 from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The theme this year is "2010 Ways
to Celebrate Diversity." Bring the whole family for a
day of celebration, cultural villages, free school supplies
and fitted bicycle helmets, education and career
fair, health fair, entrepreneurial business fair, general
vendors, world music, poetry, art and fun for everyone!
The Spokane Folklore Society and Fall Folk
Festival will have a table showcasing our events. If
you would be available to work at the table for a couple
of hours and tell people about the SFS it would be great.
