Participatory Dance and Music Workshops at the  2007 Festival

DANCE WORKSHOPS /PARTICIPATORY DANCE

            Square Dance (Saturday at Noon) with the Valley Crosstrailers Square Dance Club

Japanese Dance (Saturday 1:45 p.m.) Japanese students attending Mukogawa Fort Wright Institute will perform several dances then invite the audience to learn a dance.

Introduction to Belly Dance (Saturday at 2:00) with Nizana.

English Country Dance (Saturday at 3 p.m.) Mitchell Frey teaches “contradances” from the 17th century

International Folk Dance (Saturday at 4 p.m.) with Karen Wilson-Bell

New England Contra Dance Workshop Saturday at 6:30 and 8:30  Sunday 3 p.m.

Learn the basics of this community dance tradition that has been bringing communities together in New England for hundreds of years and has spread across the country

MUSIC WORKSHOPS -Classroom 1 in Building 5

What Would Woody Do? With the Blue Ribbon Tea Company (Saturday 12:30-2 p.m.)

An informative and entertaining intro into the music of Woody Guthrie and his influence. Discussion of instrumental and vocal styles plus performance examples

Songs from the Scottish Highlands with Brian MacLeod (Saturday 2:30 – 4 p.m.)

A workshop on songs and traditions from the Scottish Highlands. Brought up in the Highlands, Brian will use examples from his own family along with songs, photos and maps

Mississippi John Hurt with Frank Delaney (Saturday 4:30 –6)

This workshop is both a music appreciation and guitar instruction workshop.

Frank Delaney traveled to Hurts home in Mississippi to do research for a special he will produce for KPBX and a book he is writing. The workshop will include a demonstration of Hurts playing style as well as a slideshow and videos from Mississippi.  Click here for more info
